China's Religious Delegation to Attend Millennium World Peace Summit

A Chinese religious delegation will attend the Millennium World Peace Summit of Religious and Spiritual Leaders to be held in the United States on August 28-31.

The delegation, consisting of seven main leaders of Buddhism, Daoism, Islamism, Catholicism and Christianity, is a peace and friendship envoy from China, said Wang Zhaoguo, deputy chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), Wednesday.

In response to the the coming summit, a seminar about world peace started today in Beijing.

Wang said that all these religious leaders have a deep understanding of maintaining world peace. Over 100 million Chinese are religious, and China's Constitution and laws guarantee their freedom in religious belief.

Wang hopes the delegation will play an active role in the summit and make contributions to human peace.

About 60 representatives from different religious groups and the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences participated in the seminar.
