China to Issue Charitable Lottery TicketsChina's Minister of Civil Affairs Doje Cering disclosed today that China is scheduled to issue a set of charitable lottery tickets nationwide on September 1, and plans to adopt the methods of unified distribution and marketing, the first of this type in China.Approximately 53 percent of the total face value of the first batch of the lottery tickets, worth from 500 million to 1 billion yuan, will be won by ticket buyers. And some 30 percent of the total profits will be used to set up housing and recreation centers for the elderly as well as other projects for the aged. According to international practices, people over 60 years old are considered to be elderly and a society with 10 percent of its population older than 60 are regarded as an "aged society". By October 1 last year, China's elderly people had reached 10 percent of the country's total population. |
