Cambodia Artists to Perform in Beijing

A troup of dancers from Cambodia will give a performance on the evening of September the seventh at the theatre of the China Palace of Nationalities in Beijing.

Established in 1979, the 25-member ensemble is one of the most well known troupes in Cambodia.

Their Beijing performance will include 12 dances, including " the Pestle Dance", and " the Coconut Dance", accompanied on Khmer instruments.

"The Pestle" is a very popular dance, which is traditionally performed by townsfolk during feasts, and depicts various aspects life in Khmer Villages.

The "Coconut dance" is a traditional form of celebration during the Khmer New Year. It involves dance movements and singing conducted in turn by two equal groups of girls and boys. �
