Third China Internet Contest Starts

The Third China Internet Contest officially started nationwide, with the aim of increasing people's awareness on information and promoting the development of information industry.

The contest will include the National Internet Knowledge Contest, the China Enterprise Information Development Contest, the China Family Online Shopping Contest, the China Miss Internet Selection, and the China Stock Exchange Online Contest, according to Xu Yongguang, director of the organizing committee.

The China Internet Contest is the only state-level Internet contest authorized and directed by the China State Information Development Promotion Office.

All the 31 provinces, municipalities, autonomous regions and special administrative regions in the country have set up special departments responsible for the organizing, promotion and production of the contest.

The contest will finish in December. It is estimated that the number of participants will reach two million and the participating work units will be 20,000.

The third contest is being sponsored by the China Youth Development Foundation, China Central Television, China Telecom, Bank of China and China Enterprise League.

Zhou Guangzhao, vice-chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress, attended the opening ceremony in Beijing.

The first two contests were held in 1998 and 1999 respectively.
