Chinese Seaside Resort Combats Water Pollution

All of the polluted water in Beidaihe, one of China's most famous summer resorts, has been disposed of and cleaned before flowing into the sea, an official source said.

The quality of sea water there has been significantly improved this summer and has met the requirements of the state's first-class sea water standard, according to the local environment monitoring center.

Last year the local government invested 120 million yuan (15 million US dollars) on a sewage-disposal factory which started operation earlier this summer. The government also launched a drive to clean the rubbish so as to protect the ocean from being polluted.

Also, most of the 1,188 local enterprises have met the waste-discharging requirements, which has helped clean the sea water.

Covering a land area of 70 square kilometers along the Bohai Sea, Beidaihe attracts over 2 million tourists every year.
