Guizhou to Host Ethnic Garment Festival


The First Miao Customs Festival Held in Guizhou
Southwest China's Guizhou Province will host a major cultural festival displaying ethnic groups wearing traditional garments on October 3-4.

The festival will feature a dozen ethnic groups including, Miao, Yao, Shui and Zhuang, said a local cultural official.

Many of the ethnic groups, especially the Miao and Dong ethnic groups, have rare and special dress styles, ornaments, handicrafts and arts, according to the official,

The population of Miao and Dong ethnic groups living in Guizhou account for 28 and 38 percent respectively of the country's total.

The provincial culture department and the tourism bureau will jointly sponsor the two-day event in Kaili, capital of the Qiandongnan Prefecture.

Also on display are an ethnic garment exhibition, art performance, dress show, seminars on ethnic culture, tourism and economic development.
