HIU Robots Come Out Atop National Soccer Match

Three days' contest has shown the full supremacy of HIU (Harbin Industry University) robots over their home rivals by pocketing all four championships in the 2nd National Robot Soccer Match, which was closed in Beijing on September 3.

Four events were involved in the contest of soccer robots and software, one vs one and three vs three respectively. HIU team had gained an absolute advantage by pocketing all four soccer championships.

HIU robots also won the qualification for the coming 5th World Cup Robot Soccer Match in Sydney scheduled September 18 to 24.

Instead of a mere rivalry between robots, robot soccer match is an intense contest of intelligence and high technology between countries without doubt. This is due to the fact every robot is a high concentration of thousands of intellectual parts involving eight key technologies, such as vision, communication, electromechanical integration, software/ hardware integration, concerted tactics, stimulation, the relationship between artificial life and fuzzy control, and share control. It represents a country's hi-tech level and basic research work regarding information and automation.

Robot soccer match as a competitive sports activity has got spread in the world in recent years and it is still in the starting phase in China. HIU organized China's first robot soccer team in April 1998. The Chinese Robot Soccer Association was founded last April and it has since successfully held its first National Robot Soccer Invitation Match.
