Chinese President, Jordanian King Meet on Relations

President Jiang Zemin said Tuesday that he and the Chinese government have attached great importance to developing the friendly relationship of cooperation between China and Jordan.

During a meeting with Jordanian King Abdullah Bin Hussein, President Jiang, who arrived here on Monday to attend the Millennium summit of the United Nations, said that relations between the two nations are developing well and smoothly at present, and China, together with Jordan, is willing to work for pushing forward the development of friendly cooperation of mutual benefit.

Abdullah said that his visit to China last December has opened a new chapter in the relations between the two countries. He invited the Chinese President to visit Jordan in the near future.

Jiang expressed his belief that the exchange of visits between leaders of the two nations will be helpful to increasing the understanding between the two peoples and to the development of state relations.

The two leaders also exchanged views on the peace process in the Middle East.

Jiang said that China has attached great importance to the peace process in the Middle East region and Jordan has played a positive role in pushing forward the peace process.

He said that as long as all the parties concerned persist in carrying out the agreements already clinched in the spirit of the U.N. resolutions and based on the principle of "land for peace," the peace process would be bound to move further.
