Cuba, China Hope to Strengthen Exchanges, Cooperation

Senior officials of the Communist Party of China (CPC) and the Cuban Communist Party on Thursday expressed the hope to strengthen exchanges and cooperation between the two parties and two countries.

The hope was voiced at a meeting here between Jose Ramon Balaguer, member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee and head of the International Department of the Cuban Communist Party, and Li Tieying, member of the Politburo of the CPC Central Committee.

Li, who is also president of the Chinese Academy of Social Sciences, hailed the economic achievements the Cuban people have made under the leadership of President Fidel Castro, and the ever-growing friendly relations between the two parties and two parties.

He expressed the wish to know more about Cuba's experience in its revolution and socialist construction.

The two sides exchanged views on issues of common interest and agreed to strengthen the exchange and cooperation between the two parties and two countries.

They also spoke highly of the statements made respectively by Chinese President Jiang Zemin and President Castro at the ongoing U.N. Millennium Summit in New York.

Li arrived here Wednesday at the head of a CPC delegation following goodwill visits to Chile, Colombia and Venezuela.
