Chinese Shuttlers Advance at Sydney Badminton

Chinese shuttlers advanced into the last 16 of the Sydney Olympic women's singles badminton tournament Sunday.

Meanwhile, world champion Camilla Martin, second seed here, also put a top performance as she blew away Indonesia's Ellen Angelinawaty 11-6 and 11-2 in 19 minutes.

China's Gong Zhichao, top seed at the Olympics, took just five minutes more to dispose of Hong Kong's Ling Wan-ting 11-4, 11-3.

Another Chinese Ye Zhaoying, seeded fourth, needed three sets to defeat Judith Meulendijks of the Netherlands 11-3, 9-11 and 11-7 while Dai Yun of China, runner-up at the last world championships, eliminated Ella Karachkova of Russia 11-3, 11-5.
