Wang Yifu of China Aims at Better Results in Men's 50m Pistol

Wang Yifu, the Chinese sharpshooter who missed the gold medal in the men's 10m air pistol, will try to get a better result in the 50m pistol event on Tuesday.

The Asian and world champion will face Atlanta gold and silver medalists Boris Kokorev of Russia and Igor BAsinsky of Belarus.

Basinsky has been solid on teh 2000 World Cup series, with his best performance a gold medal in the Atlanta World Cup.

American Bill Demarest of the United States could cause an upset. He won the Milan World Cup race earlier this year with a new finals world record of 676.2 points.

Men's 50m pistol requires the utmost in concentration, focus, and discipline. Manay of the 36 starters have a realistic chance of walking away with a medal if the top shooters falter.

The top eight shooters in the 60-shot qualification round will progress to the 10-shot final round, where a combined score will decide the medalists.
