China Holds Population and Environment Contest

About one million participants in China have responded to a national contest on population, resources and the environment since the contest began in July.

The contest, co-sponsored by the State Environmental Protection Administration, State Family Planning Commission and the Ministry of Land and Resources, is designed to spread knowledge on resource management, family planning and environmental protection, and to promote the implementation of China's strategy for sustainable development.

In addition to the paper version of the contest, participants could also access the contest questions by going to Chinafamily.com.cn, a new website opened on September 19.

The website features ten special columns and serves web surfers by providing knowledge on reproductive health and on how to produce and foster healthy children.

The award ceremony for the contest is scheduled for October 20.
