Top Chinese Legislator Meets Vietnamese Delegation
Top Chinese legislator Li Peng met Thursday with a Vietnamese delegation led by Truong My Hoa, vice chairwoman of Vietnam's National Assembly.

Li, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), said that exchanges between the NPC and Vietnam's National Assembly have been frequent in recent years, adding that he had sincere and friendly talks with Chairman Nong Duc Manh of Vietnam's National Assembly in New York not long ago at the Conference of Presiding Officers of National Parliaments.

He said it is a meaningful thing that Truong My Hoa is in China to see for herself the development on social security issues, and discuss legislation on the matter with officials of the NPC Financial and Economic Committee.

Li said that China is seeking better ways to improve social security, and has the intention to enact laws on the matter, adding that China is willing to exchange views with Vietnam on the issue.

He also expressed the hope that the NPC and Vietnam's National Assembly would strengthen cooperation in the years ahead, thus pushing forward Sino-Vietnamese relations as a whole.

Truong My Hoa said that the Vietnamese National Assembly is ready to promote its relations with the Chinese NPC. She also conveyed Chairman Nong Duc Manh's invitation to Li Peng for a visit to Vietnam.

Li said that he looks forward to having an opportunity to visit Vietnam.

The Vietnamese delegation is visiting China at the invitation of the NPC Financial and Economic Committee.
