ISI Honors Most Highly-Cited Chinese Authors
Authors of the 47 most highly cited Chinese papers published from 1981 to 1998 received International Science Index (ISI) "Citation Classic" awards Monday.
The awards were given to papers that document significant research results or equivalent work and then become the foundation of discussion and a resource for other research papers worldwide.
Consequently, these influential papers are the most frequently or highly cited papers in a given field.
The papers were identified by the ISI Research Department as being published between 1981 and 1998 with citation counts through 1999 by Chinese authors based in the country.
From a total of approximately 200,000 Chinese papers 213 were selected as "world-class papers". Of these highly cited papers, 47 were written exclusively by Chinese researchers and were included in the final selection. These 47 Chinese papers were honored by ISI with the designation Chinese "Citation Classics" of 2000.
One hundred and twenty-four authors received "Citation Classic" awards. Jacqueline Trolley, market director of ISI, announced the award winners and commented on the wide range of disciplines represented, including hematology, neuroscience, physics, pharmacology and toxicology, materials science and mathematics.
"The diversity of the research is evidence that China has had a vital impact on international scientific discoveries," said Mrs. Trolley.
