More Chinese Models to Speak for Fashion Brands

More Chinese professional models should strive to get endorsement contracts with clothing brands rather than merely take part in fashion shows, said a senior fashion industry insider at the First China Models Contest which started its final competition recently in Chengdu.

Wang Qing, chairman of China Garment Association, said that very few Chinese models can see themselves as endorsing different clothing brands.

He pointed out that in order to achieve the goal, models should equip themselves with more knowledge and understanding of culture and art.

The selection of models in China is mainly through market channels, which has neglected the educational background of the models, Wang said.

He suggested that winners of this contest become part of elite commercial model troops.

China now has over 130 modeling agencies with 4,000 to 5,000 professional models.
