Timbal and Song Festival Scheduled in Guangxi

A timbal and song festival is to be held in Yizhou City of south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, in October 28-30.

An organizing official said that preparations for the festival have been intense but should be completed before October 10.

A dozen cultural performances, including folk song contests, traditional timbal dances by 150 farmers of the fun-loving Zhuang ethnic group, exhibitions of calligraphy and potted flowers and plants, a national go chess invitational tournament, as well as commodity fairs, trade talks and tourism promotion activities will be held during the festival.

Yizhou is a county-level city in northwestern Guangxi and has about 600,000 people, of which, 80 percent are of ethnic Zhuang background. The city is said to be the hometown of Third Sister Liu, the legendary singing queen of the ethnic Zhuang group.

The official added that foreign diplomats in China from 16 countries will be invited to attend the festival.
