Editorial Hails Return of Chinese Olympic Team

Our Daily delivered an editorial October 2 hailing the return of the Chinese athletes who won medal honors at the Sydney Olympic Game.

The editorial, "Motherland is Proud of You," says that China has the best Olympic achievements in its history -- 28 gold medals, 16 silver medals and 15 bronze medals.

"This is a generous gift for National Day and a strong testimony for a vigorous China," it notes.

The Chinese athletes showed a tenacious struggling spirit, superb athletic skills and sound competitive morale at the games. Winners include both old and new athletes, it says.

The combined victories of the Chinese athletes represents a victory of patriotism and the enterprising spirit of the Chinese nation, the editorial says.

The 1.2 billion Chinese people are willing to make more contributions to the development of the modern Olympic Game, and Beijing, the Chinese capital, is capable of holding the 2008 Olympic Games, it notes.

The Chinese people will learn from the brave spirit of the athletes and perform better in their jobs to enter the new century, the editorial says.
