Shandong Reports Large Electricity-Generating Capacity

The total electricity-generating capacity in east China's Shandong Province has reached nearly 20 million kilowatts, ranking second nationwide after Guangdong Province.

A 300,000-kilowatt power generating unit became operational recently in Laicheng, after costing three billion yuan to construct, local sources said.

The province has invested more than 20 billion yuan in the construction of power facilities over the Ninth Five-Year Plan period (1996-2000), adding 6.1 million kilowatts of power generating capacity.

The Zouxian Power Plant has become the largest thermal power plant in China, with a power generating capacity of 2.4 million kilowatts.
