Chinese Taipei Steals One Match from Indonesia in Davis Cup

Chinese Taipei spoiled Indonesia's dream of a landslide victory as it managed to steal one point thanks to Cheng Wei-jen who defeated Hendri Susilo Pramono 6-4, 6-2 on the reverse singles Sunday at the Kemayoran tennis center.

Earlier, Suwandi had to work hard to overcome Tsai Chia-yen to win 6-3, 5-7, 6-1 ensuring a 4-0 lead.

Indonesia is promoted to Davis Cup Group I Asia Oceania zone after its 3-0 decisive win in the singles matches Friday and doubles match Saturday.

On Friday, Indonesia's first singles Suwandi beat Chinese Taipei's second singles Cheng Wei-jen 6-4, 6-2, 6-2, while Indonesia's second singles Hendri Susilo Pramono defeated Chinese Taipei's first singles Tsai Chia-yen 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 6-3.

Indonesia ensured its victory as Bonit Wiryawan and Sulistyo Wibowo overcame Cheng and Chen Wei-ju 6-3, 6-4, 6-4.

Indonesia is scheduled to meet Uzbekistan.html target=_blank>Uzbekistan next year but the host country is yet to be determined.

Speaking on the match against Uzbekistan in next year's first round, coach Deddy Prasetyo said the team had three months to prepare for it.

"We still have three months to prepare our players for the match. They need to compete more," he was quoted by the Jakarta Post Monday as saying.

Deddy said should Uzbekistan be appointed as host, he would prepare his team to train and compete in chilly weather.
