Yugoslav New President Meets with Military Leaders

Yugoslav military leaders pledged to fulfill all tasks assigned by Vojislav Kostunica at a meeting with the new president here Sunday.

Kostunica heard their reports on the present security situation and the state of the military at the enlarged working conference of the general staff of the armed forces, the first of the kind he had with the military after taking his office.

Participants of the meeting expressed concern about the breaches and illegal activities against the law and the constitution, that have emerged since the September 24 election, according to a statement issued by the Information Bureau of the General Staff.

The conference pointed out that the Yugoslav armed forces have the ability to cope with existing problems and they pledged to fulfill all tasks assigned by the president.

Last Friday, the eve of Kostunica's swearing-in, Chief of the General Staff of the armed forces Nebojsa Pavkovic, on behalf of the military, congratulated Kostunica on his victory in the presidential election.
