China-Africa Cooperation Forum Opens in Beijing

The year 2000 ministerial conference of the China-Africa Cooperation Forum opened at the Great Hall of the People in Beijing Tuesday morning.

Chinese President Jiang Zemin attended the opening ceremony and will deliver a keynote speech.

The presidents of Togo, Algeria, Zambia and Tanzania are also scheduled to speak at the opening ceremony.

Present at the opening ceremony are also Chinese Vice President Hu Jintao, Vice Premier Qian Qichen, as well as Secretary General of the Organization of African Unity, Salim Ahmed Salim, and African ministers.

Chinese Foreign Minister Tang Jiaxuan presided over the opening ceremony.
