China Builds New Police Image Through Education
A senior official with the Ministry of Public Security said Thursday that the three-pronged education campaign, launched in August to improve the general quality of China's police, has had marked success.
The education campaign was initiated to improve Chinese police officers' awareness of the responsibilities of public service, to ensure that in their work they seek truth from fact, and to train
them to enforce laws in a more impartial, civilized way and in strict accordance with the law.
The campaign, meant to upgrade the general quality of China's 1.5 million police officers and curb corrupt activities among the police sector, is only one of the 12 measures adopted by the ministry this year to help build a new police image.
Vice-Minister Luo Feng told a nationwide televised meeting this afternoon that the ministry plans to build a stronger police forces within three years.
Police units across China have sponsored various activities as part of the campaign, including holding training seminars, according to Luo.
