The Road Home by Zhang Yimou Wins Best Movie Prize

Zhang Yimou, considered one of the best Chinese film directors, won a prize today for his latest movie "The Road Home."

The movie was the best movie of the year by Chinese audiences. The prize he received for his film is known as Hundred Flowers, or Baihua Award in Chinese.

Zhang Ziyi, who became a star overnight after starring in this movie, won the title of Best Actress of Year at the award ceremony.

The Road Home is a love story spanning 40 years, much of it told in flashbacks, recounting the progress of a bright young teacher emerging from the chaos of the Cultural Revolution (1966-76) and the farm girl who falls in love with him.

According to the director, the movie tries to show "emotions" and the true values that are still cherished by some people now.

The best actor of the year award went to Pan Changjiang, a comedian who often amuses Chinese audience with short plays at huge entertainment parties held on the Eve of Spring Festival, or China's Lunar New Year Eve.

But this time a movie, namely "I'll Love You Tomorrow," won him the best actor award.

The Baihua Award, together with the Golden Rooster Award (academic award appraised by experts instead of movie-goers), and Huabiao Award, a governmental film prize given by the Ministry of Culture, are the three most prestigious movie awards in China.
