Trade Unions Set Up in China's Private Sector

More than 50,000 privately owned enterprises have set up trade unions in east China's Zhejiang province, one of China's economic giants, according to the local official sources.

This figure makes up 30 percent of the total privately owned enterprises in the province.

According to the Zhejiang provincial trade union council, these labor unions in the non-state-owned industries mainly play three roles: providing training, safeguarding workers' rights and interests and giving advice on enterprise management.

In order to give a better play to the province's labor unions at non-state-owned industries, the province recently set up a special office under the provincial committee of the Communist Party of China.
