CPPCC Vice Chairman Meets Hong Kong Celebrities

Wang Zhaoguo, vice chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC), met here this afternoon with a Hong Kong celebrity delegation headed by Leung Chun-Ying, a senior official of the Hong Kong SAR Government.

During the meeting, Wang Zhaoguo, who is also head of the United Front Work Department of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and president of the China Overseas Friendship Association, extended his warm welcome to the guests.

He also informed the guests on the just-released Proposal of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee on the 10th Five-Year Plan (2001-2005) for National Economic and Social Development.

Wang encouraged the guests to travel more in the Chinese mainland and to play a more important role in strengthening the exchange between the Chinese mainland and Hong Kong.

Wang also urged the guests to make more contributions to the reunification of the motherland, saying that it is the common will and historic responsibility of all Chinese from home and abroad to make efforts in the reunification cause.

The guests, most of whom are leaders from the ten major institutes and celebrities from various fields, are on their tour (from October 18 to October 25) of Beijing and Sichuan Province at the invitation of the China Overseas Friendship Association.
