China to Continue Efforts for ME Peace and Stability: FM Spokesman

China supports any move that is conducive to the peace and stability in the Middle East and will continue its efforts to normalize Israeli-Palestinian relations.

This was announced by Chinese Foreign Ministry Spokesman Zhu Bangzao here today at a regular press conference.

In response to a relevant question, Zhu said China is "very much concerned and uneasy about the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, which is still deteriorating after rounds of multilateral negotiations".

Zhu said China hopes the two sides will, on the basis of relevant UN resolutions, take a "flexible and practical stand" and resume peace talks as soon as possible, so as to solve the Palestinian issue and eventually achieve peace and stability in the region.

China has always supported the Middle East peace process, Zhu said, referring to the fact that some time ago, Chinese President Jiang personally sent messages to leaders of the conflicting parties respectively, hoping they would come back to the negotiation table as soon as possible.

Zhu said China also welcomes the efforts of the international community in pacifying the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

He concluded that China wishes to work together with the international community and make further contribution to the peace and stability of the Middle East.
