Registration of Domain Names in Chinese Welcome

The decision by the international domain registration sector to allow Chinese characters in Internet domain names has received a warm response.

Since October 21, more than 50,000 Chinese and foreign individuals and businesses have rushed to register their domain names in Chinese through china-channel.com, the only company providing the Chinese-language domain name registration service in China.

These individuals and businesses come from all over China, the United States and Canada. They mostly named their new domain sites after their companies, brands and such public places as the Yangtze and the Yellow River.

A china-channel source said the adoption of Chinese domain names provides Internet users with more choices when naming their websites.

The practice is also conducive to the further development of Internet resources in China, the source added.
