Taiwan Research Institute of Qinghua University Established

The Taiwan Research Institute of Qinghua University was established October 25. Established with the aim to keep abreast of the new situation featuring the rapid development of the cross-Strait economic ties, this institute will focus its research on the Taiwanese economy, the cross-Strait economic relations and industrial exchange and cooperation between the mainland and Taiwan.

Wang Zaixi, deputy director of Taiwan Affairs Office of the State Council as well as the Taiwan Work of the Party Central Committee, attended the founding ceremony and extended his congratulations on the establishment of the institute on behalf the aforesaid offices. He expressed the hope that the research institute would bring forth scientific and practical research results in light of the new situation, new circumstance and new problems, especially in the field of Taiwan economic research, and make its contribution to the development of cross-Strait relationship and the promotion of an early peaceful reunification of the motherland.

The director of the institute, Liu Zhengtao, said that the institute has under it three departments, namely, the research office of the Taiwanese economy and cross-Strait economic relations, the research center cross-Strait industrial cooperation and development and the comprehensive research office. Besides, it will build a cross-Strait economic information website to provide information service for enterprises and research departments in both the mainland and Taiwan.
