Shanghai TV Festival Opens

Shanghai's Eighth TV festival is underway.

Over 3 and-a-half thousand people from 46 countries and regions are attending a series of cultural and trade activities as part of the five day festival.

During the event, a TV program fair and a broadcasting equipment exhibit are being held.

About 300 international film companies will be showing over 400 TV programs, and various awards for Chinese and foreign TV programs will be presented.

In addition, a seminar on the development of television is being held.

Shanghai's mayor, Xu Kuangdi, says the festival will promote the international trade of TV programs and the development of China' s broadcasting industry.

The Shanghai TV Festival has been held every two years since 1986.
