Hong Kong Holds Sand Sculpture Competition

Hong Kong Holds Sand Sculpture Competition
Hundreds of local sand sculptors and their counterparts from Japan October 29 gathered at Shek O Beach, in Southern District of Hong Kong, to show their creativity and skills in the Hong Kong Sand Sculpture Competition.

Demonstrating the creators' ingenuity and imagination, dozens of inspiring sand works centering on the theme of "Hong Kong Now and Then," "Environmental Protection," "Spirit of the Olympics" and "the Era of Information" were a feast for the eyes of beach-goers.

A total of 117 teams took part in the event, with two teams in the international exchange division, 48 teams in the family division, six teams in the corporate division, 30 teams in the school division and 31 teams in the open division.

Local teams of two to six members had to finish sculpting sand works in two hours within a designated area while international teams had an extra 30 minutes to finish their works.

Sand works were judged according to skills, creativity, sense of beauty and relevance to the theme.

After keen competition, champions of the four divisions emerged. They were "King of the Animals" by "Phoenix" in the family division, "Non-smoker in Jail" by "Group People" in the corporate division, "Green Hong Kong" by Meng Tak Primary School in the primary school division, "The Poisoned Earth" by Diocesan Boys School in the secondary school division and "Home" by "Friends" in the open division which was also the overall champion of the competition.
