World Classics to Be Staged in Shanghai
Shanghai, the venue for an increasing number of international art events, has prepared nearly 20 grand theaters for the world classics to be staged during the Second Shanghai International Art Festival that opened Wednesday.
These theaters, well-known for both their size and style, include the Shanghai Grand Theater, the Shanghai Stadium, the Shanghai Music Hall, the Lyceum Theater, the Majestic Theater, and the Yifu Theater.
The Shanghai Grand Theater, built in 1998 mainly for performances of ballet, opera, and symphony, is equipped with the world's most advanced acoustics.
The BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, the British Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, the U.S. Dance Theater of Harlem, and the Joaquin Cortes Ballet Flamenco of Spain are scheduled to perform their concerts and dances there.
The Shanghai Stadium, built in 1997, which can seat more than 80,000 people, will become the stage for Aida, one of the world's most splendid operatic works.
The Shanghai Center Theater, based on the style of a Broadway theater in the U.S., will accommodate the Israel Contemporary Dance Group, which is going to give humorous contemporary dance performances from November 4 to 5.
