SIA Crash Death Toll Rises to 82The death toll from the crash of a Singapore Airlines (SIA) jetliner at a Taiwan airport last Tuesday rose to 82 Sunday when a hospitalized passenger died of the burns he received in the crash, according to reports reaching in Hong Kong.Lin Ming-liang, a 45-year-old man from Taiwan, was pronounced dead by Chang Gung Memorial Hospital in Linko, Taipei County where he had been receiving medical treatment, according to the reports. More than 86 percent of Lin's body were burnt, said the reports. The Taiwanese authority responsible for body identification and criminal investigation concerning the flight mishap earlier put the death toll at 81, with 77 passengers and four crew members. The Los Angeles-bound Boeing 747-400 jumbo jet, with flight number SQ006, crashed and burst into flames while taking off at 11: 18 p.m. Tuesday. SIA has accepted full responsibility for the crash and admitted late Friday that it was obviously a pilot error that led to the first deadly accident in the airline's 28-year history. |
