Sino-Russian Forum on Cooperation in Cities Opens

A Sino-Russian forum featuring cooperation in science, technology, industry and trade in cities opened Tuesday in Guangzhou City, capital of Guangdong Province.

More than 120 people, including administrative officials and businessmen from six Russian cities and a dozen Chinese cities are attending the three-day forum.

During the forum, participants will discuss issues regarding policies on urban economic and trade development in both countries, investment environment and prospects and possibility of cooperation.

Both sides have listed more than 70 projects for cooperation. These projects involve petrochemical, aviation meters and instruments, mining, power, fishery, machine-building, timber processing, garment, food processing and automobile industries.

While addressing the opening ceremony of the forum, Lin Shusen, Mayor of Guangzhou, said Guangzhou and Russia are complementary in economic development and there is broad space for cooperation.

According to Lin, Guangzhou has done US$357 million worth of foreign trade with Russia since 1995.

In the meantime, exchanges between China and Russia in fields like culture, art and sports have kept increasing in the past years.

The forum is jointly sponsored by four organizations, including

two Russian ones, said local sources.
