Sino-US Relations to Develop on Current Basis: Vice Premier

Chinese Vice Premier Qian Qichen said Thursday in Bandar Seri Bagewan that China-US relations could see further development on the basis of what has been achieved, after the new US administration takes office.

Qian was holding talks with US Secretary of State Madeleine Albright and National Security Advisor Sandy Berger, on the sidelines of the eighth informal leadership meeting of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) forum which ends here Thursday afternoon.

Qian was accompanying Chinese President Jiang Zemin for the APEC meeting and a three-nation trip to Southeast Asia.

Qian said that the Clinton administration in the last eight years has made a number of important decisions on some major issues concerning the US-China relations, which helped promote the development of bilateral ties.

Albright stressed the importance of positive development of the US-China ties. Even though the two countries could not agree on

all issues, she said, the two sides held discussions on many important issues during the past eight years and achieved positiveresults.

Confident of the future development of the US-China ties, Albright said she believed the new US administration will keep the current track.
