Result of China's First Survey on Credit Consumption Published

The result of China's first survey on credit consumption published recently shows that 17 percent of the interviewed have had credit consumption in the past six months with an average amount being close to 30,000 yuan; in the coming six months, 34 percent of the interviewees are inclined to make credit consumption.

This survey was conducted jointly by the Chinese Economic Performance Monitoring Center of the National Bureau of Statistics and the MasterCard International among 2,100 citizens in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Wuhan, Zhengzhou, Chengdu and Xi'an of China.

The survey shows that housing, education, cars and medical treatment are the best choices for credit consumption with proportions standing respectively at 74.8 percent, 10 percent, 9.2 percent and 2.5 percent; credits from financial institutions are the major sources of credit consumption at present followed by credits from friends and relatives and credit payment and installment payment offered by sellers; people of Shanghai rely on financial institutions while citizens of Beijing and Guangzhou on credit cards.

According to an analysis of the situation that the colony who intend to make credit consumption in the coming six months will exceed one-third of the whole population, said a responsible person with the monitoring center, 30 million out of the present 100 million families in cities and towns will join this colony.
