Founding of Taiwan Compatriots Federation Marked

A commemorative meeting was held November 21 to mark the 20th anniversary of the founding of the Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, the first of its kind established on the Chinese mainland.

Zhang Dejiang, secretary of the Zhejiang Provincial Committee of the Communist Party of China, and Shi Sihao, vice-director of the All-China Federation of Taiwan Compatriots, attended the meeting.

The Zhejiang Provincial Federation of Taiwan Compatriots was set up in November 1980 to promote the reunification of the Chinese nation.

Over the years, the federation has contributed a lot to increasing economic, cultural and educational cooperation and exchanges between the mainland and Taiwan.

It has also been active in participating in government and political affairs by offering the local government suggestions concerning major social and economic issues.
