Macao SAR to Issue Intelligent ID Card

Residents in the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) of China will in the near future find their daily life much more easier with the help of an intelligent identification card

In addition to indicating personal identity, the card can also be used in place of driving license, medical card, border pass and electronic purse, the Macao Daily News reported November 27.

As to the protection of privacy, the government has assured residents that the part of data stored by one certain department cannot be retrieved by another.

The new ID cards might be available at the end of 2001. And it will take three or four years for all residents to become beneficiaries.
