3 Killed, 15 Missing in Gas Explosion in Southwest China

A gas explosion in a coal mine Thursday morning killed three miners in Dongshan town of southwest China's Yunnan Province, and 15 others are still missing at press time, local officials said Friday, December 1.

Rescue efforts are underway, organized by the local government.

The Laochonggou coal mine in Qujing City is a privately run business that has been found operating license, the officials said.

Beside Laochonggou, explosions have occurred at another two coal mines in the city so far this year, claiming lives and heavy losses.
