Lebanese Minister in Baghdad for Enhancing Cooperation

Lebanese Finance Minister Fouad Siniora arrived in Baghdad on Thursday, December 7, by plane, leading an official delegation for a visit aimed at cementing cooperation.

Upon arrival at Saddam International Airport, Siniora said the visit came as an expression of Lebanon's solidarity with Iraq in the face of the decade-old international economic sanctions.

The lebanese minister said that he will discuss with Iraqi officials ways to enhance cooperation, especially in the oil field, between the two countries.

A number of senior Iraqi officials, including ministers of finance, transport and communications, oil, and industry and minerals greeted the delegation, which also included Lebanese minister of economy and two ministers of state.

The ties between Iraq and Lebanon have been developing steadily since they resumed diplomatic relations in 1998.

Lebanon has called for the lifting of the sanctions the United Nations imposed on Iraq after its 1990 invasion of Kuwait. It has also sent several planes to Iraq in defiance of air embargo.
