S.Korean President Leaves for Oslo for Nobel Peace Prize

South Korean President Kim Dae-jung left for Oslo, Norway, Friday morning to attend Nobel Peace Prize award ceremony Sunday, December 10.

In a statement before departure, Kim dedicated the prize to those who, for the last 40 years, have supported his efforts to "enhance democracy and human rights and pave for the way for new era in inter-Korean reconciliation."

In his prepared acceptance speech to be delivered at the award ceremony, Kim says he will show his vision for peace and stability on the Korean Peninsula, democracy human rights and world peace, promising to "improve Korea's image and credit within the international community."

During his trip in Norway, Kim will meet King Harald V, Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and Speaker Kirsti Groendal of that country.

After the visit in Oslo, the South Korean president will travel to Stockholm, Sweden, for a two-day visit beginning on December 12. He is expected to meet Prime Minister Goeran Persson and address the Swedish parliament.
