ROK Software Industry Sees a Bright Prospect for Cooperation with Guangzhou

Information from the 2000 ROK Software Fair, which was held recently in Seoul, shows that the software industry of the Republic of Korea has a good prospect for cooperation with China. Guangzhou has been selected as a cooperative partner by South Korea Software Industry Association. During the Fair, the South Korean institute signed with the Guangzhou city government 10 memorandums concerning the cooperation in information communication industry.

The event was sponsored by the Ministry of Information & Communications of the government of the Republic of Korea and the South Korea Software Industry Association. The most striking feature of the Fair this year is the combination of sale exhibition of products with the search for cooperative partners. The government of the ROK casts an eye especially on China's software market and the potential for the development of its information and communication technologies.

Recently, after investigating the situation regarding China's information industry, the South Korea Software Industry Association chose Guangzhou as its cooperative partner. In mid-December, it will lead 54 Korean information enterprises including Samsung and LG to Guangzhou to attend the 2000 China-ROK Information Communication Seminar. By then, enterprises of the two countries will have an all-round discussion and seek opportunities for further cooperation.

In recent years, the government of the ROK has been increasing its input in the information communication industry. It is estimated that by the end of this year, the number of netizens of the ROK by the end of this year will possibly exceed 20 million, nearly half of the country's total population. Software industry has developed at an exceptionally fast rate. Many practical technologies have been put one after another into different fields of production and daily life.
