Enterprises in Hubei to Introduce New Wage System

Enterprises in central China's Hubei Province have begun the comprehensive reform of their wage system in a move to enhance productivity.

The reform will be based on three distribution systems, i.e., the annual wage system for enterprise executives, post-related wages for workers and staff members, and an income distribution system under which productive factors such as capital, know-how and managerial expertise are involved in distribution.

The annual wage system will be introduced in all State-owned enterprises across the province in 2001. It will cover chairmen, general managers and leading researchers.

Meanwhile, different wage standards will be set according to post-related responsibility, expertise, labor intensity, work conditions and contributions to enterprises.

To date, twelve enterprises in Hubei Province have been chosen as pilot ones in instituting the annual wage system. A total of 1,323 enterprises have introduced the post-based wage system. Another 464 enterprises have conducted the experiment in involving production factors in income distribution. In the three types of enterprises, post-based responsibility, skills and contribution have started to play a dominant role in wage distribution.
