Fudan University Sets Up Integrated Circuit Engineering Center

Wang Shenghong, President of Fudan University, announced Friday, December 15, the establishment of an integrated circuit (IC) engineering center on campus.

While speaking at the unveiling ceremony for the center, Wang explained that the center is designed to attract more senior professionals in information and IC design from at home and abroad.

Zhu Jiping, director of Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission, said they would fully support Fudan and Jiaotong universities, two of China's best universities, in their efforts to become Shanghai's high-tech research and development centers.

The center is jointly established by Fudan University and Shanghai Micro-Electronic Co. Ltd., an affiliated company that went public on the Hong Kong stock exchange this August.

The center will mainly engaged in research and development of IC for computers and telecommunications commodities, laptops, handheld units, multi-purpose personal computers, as well as chips for digital home appliances and frequency IC for other purposes.

Fudan University has a better capacity to do research and development on IC and is the only university in the country that has a specialized major state lab for IC and systems.
