Exhibition of Qing Dynasty Items Opens in Macao

With support from the Palace Museum in Beijing, the Macao Museum of Art Saturday, December 16, launched a three-month exhibition of imperial packaging art during the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911).

Entitled "Qing Legacies: the Sumptuous Art of Imperial Packaging," the exhibition includes 106 items of packaging caskets, boxes and hand-carried cases, which were used to contain paintings, religious booklets, entertainment accessories and tributes.

The most common raw materials of the packaging works include gold, paint, red sandalwood, leather, bamboo and enamel and the works show a perfect integration between practicality and visual refinement.

In December last year, the Macao Museum of Art worked together with the Palace Museum to stage a similar exhibition of paintings and antiques of the periods under the reign of Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong of the Qing Dynasty.
