Zhu Rongji Meets Macao Chief Executive

Zhu Rongji Meets Macao Chief Executive
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji expressed his appreciation over the performance of the government of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR) this year, when meeting with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao SAR, Monday, December 18.

After hearing Ho's report on the performance of his official duties, Zhu said that the Macao SAR government has, since the foundation of the SAR a year ago, earnestly implemented the principles of "one country, two systems", "Macao residents administrating Macao" and a high degree of autonomy. The practical and enterprising working spirit of the SAR government has won widespread praise from Macao residents, he said.

The premier expressed appreciation for the efforts of the Macao SAR government in improving the investment environment and promoting the recovery of Macao economic growth.

Zhu said that as the Macao SAR is part of the motherland, the Central Government will actively provide it with support and assistance in economic development and other areas.

Vice-Premier Qian Qichen also met Ho Hau Wah earlier Monday.
