President Jiang Meets Macao Chief Executive
President Jiang Zemin met Monday, December 18, with Edmund Ho Hau Wah, chief executive of the Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), who came here to report on the performance of official duties to the central government.

Jiang said that he is pleased about the achievements of the Macao SAR in the past year in various aspects and praised Ho and the SAR government for their work.

Jiang pointed out that since the SAR was established a year ago, its executive, legislative and judiciary functionaries have gradually improved and are operating smoothly. He also added that public security has taken a turn for the better and the economy is recovering.

Macao residents have brought their patriotic tradition and tradition of loving Macao into full play by actively participating in the management of SAR affairs and construction of the SAR, Jiang said.

"All these are evidence that Macao residents can run their own affairs, and they can run their affairs better than before," Jiang said.

The president said that the central government will continue to support Chief Executive Ho and the Macao SAR in their work.

Jiang expressed his confidence that Macao will achieve greater developments in the new century.

Vice Premier Qian Qichen and Liao Hui, director of Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office of the State Council, were present at the meeting.
