Speedier Impeachment Trial Is His Christmas Wish: Estrada

Philippine President Joseph Estrada said Wednesday, December 20, that a speedy resolution of the impeachment trial, once it resumes from a four-day break next week, is the most fervent wish during the Yuletide season.

Speaking to reporters in Quezon city, Metro Manila, the president said the trial has taken an emotional toll on members of his family.

"My Christmas wish is, I hope this impeachment trial will be finished as soon as possible so it will not prolong the feeling of our people especially my family," Estrada said.

The president noted that he initially expected the trial to end before Christmas, but admitted that it is now a virtual impossibility.

"I initially hoped it would end by Christmas. But it did not, so I hope the trial would go faster once it resumes. Hopefully it would be over in less than a month," he said.
