The largest city in central China, Wuhan of Hubei province, has set up a special legal aid office for the city's minority residents.

The office will provide free legal consultation, lawyers and other services to those from ethnic minority groups involved in lawsuits or have questions about the law.

According to Yang Guoan, deputy director of the municipal ethnic group affairs committee, at present Wuhan has some 40,000 minority residents, belonging to 46 ethnic groups, and nearly 70, 000 people from various minorities who are doing business or studying in the city.

Since 1996, in order to better serve the minorities, the municipal government has set up 21 liaison offices to help solve various kinds of problems and difficulties of those from minority ethnic groups.
