Premier Calls for Efforts to Improve Government Work Style

Premier Calls for Efforts to Improve Government Work Style
Chinese Premier Zhu Rongji Thursday called on central government departments to make further efforts to build a clean government and fight against corruption.

In his address to the 15th Party conference of central government departments held in Beijing, Zhu urged the departments to follow Deng Xiaoping theory and Jiang Zemin's instructions on Party building and try to be efficient and clean.

Zhu, also a member of the Political Bureau Standing Committee of the Communist Party of China Central Committee, spoke highly of the work of central government departments in promoting the nation's reform and opening-up drive.

He pointed out that it is an important principle and objective to build a clean, hard working, practical and high efficient government. All departments should further change the mode and style of their work to better serve the people.

Zhu stressed that it is a major task of government organs to strengthen Party building and fight against corruption. He urged leaders at all levels, especially those who are Party members, to carry out the regulations on self-discipline to the letter.

Supervision over the major leaders and officials in charge of financial and personnel affairs must be strengthened, he said, adding that whoever violates the law must be punished.
