Overseas Chinese Back Beijing's Olympic Bid

Five government offices dealing with overseas Chinese affairs held a reception Monday to call on overseas Chinese to give their support to Beijing's bid for the 2008 Olympic Games.

Chairman of the Zhigong Party Luo Haocai said holding the Olympics will help Chinese nation to merge with the international community. It is also a good opportunity to promote Chinese culture and improve China's image in the world. He noted that China has seen a rapid growing economy and social progress, therefore, China is capable of hosting the Olympics.

Wu Yanxi, representing overseas Chinese, said China's role in the international community is related to the fate of overseas Chinese. They look forward to China hosting the Olympic Games and playing a more active role in the world.

Vice Executive President and Beijing Vice Mayor Liu Jingmin attended the meeting and briefed the participants on Beijing's preparation for the bid.

He addressed a letter to all the overseas Chinese, calling for their support for Beijing��s Olympic Bid.
